The Ipswich Renewable Energy Hub is centred on a 700 MW grid connection at Bramford, one of the UK’s most significant renewable energy connection points. The project has the potential to bring together large-scale renewable generation, long-duration energy storage and local energy demand within one coordinated infrastructure model.
The hub could support a range of local energy needs, including a large-scale AI data centre, low-carbon heat opportunities across Ipswich, HGV charging and secure lorry parking close to the A14 and A12 freight corridors. It could also support the wider use of renewable power from major offshore wind projects connecting into the East of England.
With demand for clean power, digital infrastructure and low-carbon heat continuing to grow across Suffolk, the project provides a practical model for how renewable energy infrastructure can support logistics, local jobs, skills, heat networks and long-term economic growth.
