The South Wales Renewable Energy Hub is centred on Cilfynydd in Rhondda Cynon Taf, where local ridgelines provide strong conditions for onshore wind generation. The project has the potential to bring together onshore wind, long-duration energy storage, digital infrastructure and local energy demand within one coordinated infrastructure model.
The hub could support a range of local energy needs, including clean power for a potential AI data centre, local jobs, skills and community benefit. The project could also include a RheEnergise High-Density Hydro® storage partnership, using existing hillside conditions to provide large-scale long-duration energy storage.
With demand for clean power, storage and digital infrastructure continuing to grow across Wales, the project provides a practical model for how renewable energy infrastructure can support local regeneration, energy resilience and long-term economic growth while working with the local environment.
