Preston Renewable Energy Hub

Connecting offshore wind, clean storage and digital infrastructure for the North West
Preston

The North West Renewable Energy Hub is centred on a 600 MW grid connection at Penwortham in Lancashire. The project has the potential to bring together offshore wind, long-duration energy storage, solar generation, digital infrastructure and local energy demand within one coordinated infrastructure model.

The hub could support a range of local energy needs, including clean power for local businesses, AI data centres, EV and HGV charging, and the proposed Silicon Sands Data Centre in Blackpool. Heat reuse opportunities could also support homes, schools, swimming pools and hospitals across the region.

With demand for clean power, digital infrastructure and regional regeneration continuing to grow across Lancashire and the wider North West, the project provides a practical model for how renewable energy infrastructure can support local industry, community facilities, transport, jobs and long-term economic growth.
